The
proposed
west end
berm
(formerly
referred
to as
the
levee)
project
that
would
have
involved
building
a berm
beside
the bike
trail on
the
south
side of
Bienville,
was
voted on
at
tonight’s
Town
council
meeting.
After
discussion
(during
which no
council
member
seemed
to
support
the idea
as it
was),
the
following
motion
was
proposed
and
passed
by
unanimous
vote as
the
Towns
response
to
FEMA/EMA
“We do
not
accept
the berm
project
as
proposed
but are
interested
in other
options.”
The
council
felt it
was
important
to
respond
to the
proposal
professionally
and to
put
together
a
response
that
will
share
the
concerns
the
community
and Town
had
about
the
project
– namely
issues
of
access,
use,
cost of
installation
and
maintenance
of
service
road,
public
safety,
utilities,
insurance,
etc and
to have
that
response
be
documented
so that
in the
future
they are
able to
show the
government
officials
they
deal
with
while
the idea
was
seriously
considered
and
found
unacceptable
due to
very
legitimate
problems
with the
plan;
the Town
is open
to ideas
and
suggestions.

West end
flooding
–This week (April
26-28) we are
experiencing
flooding on the west
end. There is
no rainfall, no
storm systems; just
a strong south wind.
It is pushing the
waves right up onto
the lots south of
Bienville and is
crossing Bienville
in a few places.
The picture below
was taken this
morning around Sehoy.
The winds are from
the south east
blowing 15-25 knots
this afternoon, and
are forecast to be
south east 10-15
knots tomorrow.
There will most
likely be new
problems with side
streets and driveway
issues. Will let
you know how things
look tomorrow. |

not just the
hurricane coverage
that's costly
Some Alabama
insurers are
charging coastal
customers more to
cover risks like
fire and theft ?
those having nothing
to do with
hurricanes ? than
customers elsewhere,
despite no clear
evidence that such
losses are generally
higher here,
Insurance
Commissioner Jim
Ridling says.

More rain on the
way to southwest
Alabama ? ready or
not
More rainfall is
expected today,
which forecasters
say will further
batter areas around
Mobile and Baldwin
counties that were
drenched over the
weekend by a series
of powerful storms.
The wet weather
closed roads,
flooded homes and
caused numerous
sewer spills.
From
Beth, Last
weeks heavy rainfall
on Wed,
Thurs & Fri combined
with high surf and a
south wind to cause
coastal flooding,
especially bad
Fri/Sat.
Saturday am
Bienville Blvd was
flooded from St
Andrews Ct west with
the areas around St
Denis Ct & Sehoy
being deepest.
In several areas
surf washed from
south (gulf) side of
Island to the north
side of Bienville.
Things were trying
to dry
on Sunday
& yesterday, however
today we are under
another coastal
flood watch, with
another one expected
on Thursday.
Below are some
pictures taken
Saturday around
noon. Those of
you with structural
damages have already
been contacted,
however driveway
damages are a bit
murkier – several
will need to be
scraped or in some
cases rock will need
to be added. A few
of the side streets
will need to have
sand scraped off
before cars can get
to your driveways.
Once tonight’s
weather passes we’ll
see if any new
flooding has
occurred and will
have a better idea
what is needed in
terms of driveway
repair. Some
pictures are up at
